What If…Rick Wakeman had joined Yes before The Yes Album? 463

Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier

This is our first episode in the YMPโ€™s 10th Anniversary year and itโ€™s a real epic. I asked Patrons and a few others for their contributions to this weekโ€™s topic and the response was amazing. So this is another episode you might want to listen to in parts. It may well be the longest episode ever but I also think youโ€™ll really enjoy hearing everyoneโ€™s thoughts on Rick Wakeman and The Yes Album. Incidentally, if you sent me a contribution but I havenโ€™t included it, please do let me know and Iโ€™ll apologise and add it to next weekโ€™s show.

  • Was this the right time for Rick Wakeman to join Yes?
  • Was Tony Kaye’s style not right for the band?
  • How different would it have sounded if Wakeman had been there?

Listen to the episode and let us know what you think!

Theme music

The music I use is the last movement of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. This has been used as introduction music at many Yes concerts. My theme music is not take from a live concert – I put it together from the following two creative commons sources: thanvannispen and archive.org

YES FanFest – 50 True Summers – from a distance – 345

Ken Fuller’s programme!

Produced by Robert Nasir, Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier

Neither Mark nor I were able to get to the YES50 FanFest in Philadelphia but we took part as well as we could remotely. This week we are reflecting on some of the performances and the general feel we picked up remotely. We also have a two pence about whether Yes are playing too often these days.

  • Which Yes men were there?
  • What was played?
  • Was it a worthwhile event?

Yes Tracks Through Time Part 13 – The Fish – 283

A whole lot of Fish!
A whole lot of Fish!

Produced by Preston Frazier, David Gordon, Bill Govier, Wayne Hall and Michel Arsenault.

This week it was great to welcome long-time listener, Ken Fuller, onto the show. We listen to the bass master-work, The Fish, and its second iteration, Whitefish, from a variety of different Yes periods. We had a great time!

  • Which version is better?
  • Bruford or White?
  • How good was Squire?

Steve Howe’s Beginnings – 252

'Beginnings' by Steve Howe
‘Beginnings’ by Steve Howe

Produced by Preston Frazier

This week we have reached Steve Howe’s Beginnings in our survey of Yes members’ solo albums. We also have a slightly exasperating 2 Pence about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and an ARW review from Ken Fuller.

  • Steve Howe sings all the lead vocals – why?
  • Does this album hang together as a coherent whole?
  • What would happen to ARW and Yes if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Yes this time?

A Yes Miscellany and a World Trade album review – 237

Ken Fuller shot
A shot from Ken Fuller’s concert experience

I’m off on holiday for the next two Fridays so episodes will be shorter than normal. We have the benefit of Mark’s latest album review this week, however – from Billy Sherwood’s World Trade band – and Mark also adds his latest 2 pence for your consideration. I also grab a chance to listen to a couple of interesting miscelaneous tracks from Kevin Brodie’s CDs he sent me recently. Ken Fuller has been to see Yes recently and he has kindly sent along both an audio review and audio review and a set of photographs – thanks Ken!

  • What was World Trade like originally?
  • How was Ken Fuller’s latest Yes gig?
  • What amazing and slightly random Yes related tracks will turn up?

Listen to the episode then let me know what you think!
