Should Yes Play Whole Albums Live? 222

I recorded this episode early in the week shortly before the news of Prince’s death was announced. Another musical genius is gone. It’s turning into a terrible year for our heroes.

On the show, I have a chat with Mark Anthony K about Yes current obsession with playing whole albums live and we come to some conclusions…or maybe not…take a listen and then let us know what you think.

  • Are all albums great in their entirety live?
  • Should Yes persist with this approach?
  • Should they also play a variety of other tracks?

Fragile Definitive Edition, mixed by Steven Wilson – part 1- 217

Fagile
CD/Blu-ray purchased 2016

Despite what I say at the beginning of the episode, this is definitely episode 217. I finally manage to crack open my copy of the Steven Wilson Fragile remixes. Also, Mark Anthony K spins Rick Wakeman’s Sea Airs and there’s a news round up.

  • What has Steven Wilson managed to find in the archives?
  • How does the new version of Fragile ‘feel’?
  • Why might Mark fall asleep at the wheel listening to this Wakeman record?

Listen to the episode and then let me know what you think!

An Interview with Billy Sherwood – Chris Squire, Yes and Citizen – 216 – Yes Music Podcast

Billy Sherwood
Billy Sherwood

Thanks to Mark Anthony K, we both managed to speak to Billy Sherwood and I’m releasing this episode on Chris Squire’s birthday. Billy talks a lot about his memories of Chris as well as his experience of playing with Yes and his new album, Citizen.

There is also a review from Mark Anthony K of Keys to Ascension I and a lovely recording of Deidre Nelson who is the partner of Yes author, David Watkinson. It’s a lovely and unusual way to experience Jon Anderson’s lyrics.

  • Is Billy looking forward to playing Drama and Fragile?
  • What is the new album, Citizen, all about?
  • What was it like to be part of Chris Squire’s last recording?

Listen to the episode and then let me know what you think!

ABWH Live at the NEC October 24th 1989 – Part 1 – 208

Christmas @yesofficial haul #3 #progrock #prog @grumpyoldrick
ABWH Live with Tony Levin

I have been unwell this week so I have only had time to listen to the first moments of the ABWH Live at the NEC package. However, I have had time to look at the sleeve notes and do a bit of research. There’s also a great review of a Jon and Vangelis album from Mark Anthony K and another ‘list’ from Marc Cadmore.

  • Why was this recording made?
  • Why was it not released until 2012?
  • Who is playing on it?

Listen to the episode and then let me know what you think!
