Yes singles part 15 – Talk – 334

Talk, Talk
Talk, Talk

Produced by Robert Nasir, Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier

We’ve reached Talk in our survey of Yes singles. It’s a fairly sketchy picture but we know there was at least one single from this great album and possibly a couple more – as usual if you have copies of these singles, please do leave a comment int eh show notes!

In our Two pence segment we also have a chance to think about whether Yes have released too many live albums.

  • Was Talk a Trevor Rabin solo album?
  • What were the singles?
  • Was this album progressive?

Listen to the episode then let us know what you think!

Theme music

The music I use is the last movement of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. This has been used as introduction music at many Yes concerts. My theme music is not take from a live concert – I put it together from the following two creative commons sources: thanvannispen and archive.org

I’m sorry Kevin and Mark, every time you talk about “Talk” I give it another try, but I just cannot warm up to that album. It remains my least favorite Yes album and the only album that I have never owned, in any format. I am looking forward to the next singles segments. They will be for albums that I actually liked….

You both note that there were very few singles from this album. I imagine you are going to find this problem from this point on in your series. In the 1990s the record industry actually tried to “kill off” the single as a promotional entity. The Slate podcast, Hit Parade, did an excellent episode on this phenomenon: Hit Parade: The Great War Against the Single Edition https://www.facebook.com/Culturefest/posts/10155106945728473

Let me amend my comment above. I have been listening to Talk this afternoon, as I typed my comment above. Talk is better than Big Generator. Without a doubt… so Talk moves up to become my second least favorite Yes album….

I have a The Calling radio promo cd that was sent to radio stations in Norway (and I guess in Europe) when the album came out. It’s pretty much the single version that is included in the 35th anniversary compilation album. And that’s it. Just one track.
