Our favourite Peter Banks-era songs – 625

Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Jeffrey Crecelius and Ken Fuller

This week Mark and I attempted to choose 3 Peter Banks era Yes songs each. As you’ll hear, we turned out to be thinking along similar lines but it was still a very enjoyable experience listening to the earliest days of the band and discussing what made Yes unique even at that stage.

This topic was partly in response to a tweet or X post or whatever they are now called from Phil (Primarily_Prog) @primarily_prog who posted a photo of Time and a Word and said –

  • What was special about the Peter Banks era?
  • What are our favourite songs from way back then?
  • What can we learn about how Yes music developed?

Let us know if you agree with us!

Time And A Word vs. Magnification – 474

Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall and Preston Frazier

Unusually for recent weeks, it’s just Mark and me this week having some fun considering the relative merits of TAAW and Magnification. Quite a distance apart in time but linked by some pretty obvious themes as we shall see later. Do give us your opinions on these albums via your comments in the show notes below.

  • Which album uses the orchestra better?
  • Which one is more progressive?
  • Why did Yes try out orchestra here?

Listen to the episode and let us know what you think!

Yes vs. Time And A Word – 449

Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier

My UK pressings

In a week when I was very pressed for time, I did manage to listen to Yes and Time And A Word and also speak to Mark about them.

  • Which is the better album?
  • Who stars in these shows?
  • Is the orchestra a good idea?

Our Favourite songs from Time and A Word – 358

Time and a Word
Time and a Word

Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier

While we wait for the German version re-issue of Time and a Word on Record Store Day Black Friday, we decided to listen again to the original record and choose our favourite songs. We also muse on the recent trend of private pressings in our 2 pence segment.

  • What 3 singles did we choose?
  • What can we tell about Jon Anderson’s solo work?
  • Are there any clues to 1000 Hands?

Listen to the episode then let us know what you think!
