Trevor Horn and Drama – 223

Drama!
Drama!

This week we learned that Trevor Horn is to join Yes on stage to perform Drama so I took the opportunity to think a bit about the Drama era and Mark Anthony K reviews The Yes Album as well as giving us his thoughts on Trevor Horn’s announcement.

  • What do I have in my collection from the time?
  • What do we know already about Drama in 2016?
  • What else are the band playing on tour?

Should Yes Play Whole Albums Live? 222

I recorded this episode early in the week shortly before the news of Prince’s death was announced. Another musical genius is gone. It’s turning into a terrible year for our heroes.

On the show, I have a chat with Mark Anthony K about Yes current obsession with playing whole albums live and we come to some conclusions…or maybe not…take a listen and then let us know what you think.

  • Are all albums great in their entirety live?
  • Should Yes persist with this approach?
  • Should they also play a variety of other tracks?

Fagile

This week I listen to the newly-remixed album tracks. Also, Mark Anthony K reviews Union Live and I think about the late Keith Emerson.

  • What has Steven Wilson done to the original album tracks?
  • Is this version the best CD so far?
  • Is it worth buying?

Listen to the episode and then let me know what you think!

Fragile Definitive Edition, mixed by Steven Wilson – part 1- 217

Fagile
CD/Blu-ray purchased 2016

Despite what I say at the beginning of the episode, this is definitely episode 217. I finally manage to crack open my copy of the Steven Wilson Fragile remixes. Also, Mark Anthony K spins Rick Wakeman’s Sea Airs and there’s a news round up.

  • What has Steven Wilson managed to find in the archives?
  • How does the new version of Fragile ‘feel’?
  • Why might Mark fall asleep at the wheel listening to this Wakeman record?

Listen to the episode and then let me know what you think!

Saxlife plays Yes – Total Sax Retain – 215

Saxlife Plays Yes!
CD donated by John Doyle 2016

John Doyle very kindly sent me his copy of Saxlife plays Yes – Total Sax Retain which is the brainchild of saxophonist, Jamison Smeltz. So this week I got to listen carefully to Yes classics arranged for saxophone quartet.

There is also a review from Mark Anthony K of Heaven and Earth.

  • How does Yes music sound when arranged for saxophone quartet?
  • How were the tracks put together?
  • Is this a good ‘tribute’ album?

Listen to the episode and then let me know what you think!
