Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier
This week, Mark and I went in search of the first thing Trevor Horn did after leaving Yes as (reluctant) front man. He threw himself into production, with the support and encouragement of his wife and the first project was the band, Dollar. So, we have been doing a bit of research, in our own minds and on the interwebs to see what we can remember and find out about this band and Trevor Horn’s involvement with it. It’s actually quite a bit more interesting than I thought it was going to be!
- Who were Dollar?
- How did Trevor Horn end up producing them?
- Was it prog?

Theme music
The music I use is the last movement of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. This has been used as introduction music at many Yes concerts. My theme music is not take from a live concert – I put it together from the following two creative commons sources: thanvannispen and archive.org

Mr Horn did a very good job on Dollar. David VD went on to run a burger bar outside Brighton did you know!! I used to see them on Top Of The Pops and was amused at how much the two Dollar’s loved each others performance, a little to Butlins or Pontins feel to their appearence for me and played the pop star roll to the max, all a bit cheesy and light but you get to hear small glimpses of Horn and his wonderful sounds. Videotheque is a particular favourite of mine.
Ah – Dollar. I agree with Dave – too Butlins and throwaway to be taken seriously, but I remember finding the production and arrangements interesting even at the time.
This is the most interesting TOTP performance:
It’s the first single with Trev, and re-established the duo after some big hits in the late 70s. You might spot TH in the band (his only TOTP appearance with Dollar I think, but he’d been on with Buggles) – and a fresh faced Howard Goodall on keys.
