The Sea Within and Tom Brislin Interview – 337

The Sea Within
The Sea Within

Produced by Robert Nasir, Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier

In a week which was supposed to be a holiday for me, we actually managed to speak to Tom Brislin about his new band The Sea Within as well as about #YES50. Mark reviewed the self-titled album and we then got together to compare notes. Phew!

  • Is this the new sound of prog?
  • How are the guests involved?
  • What is Tom going to do in YES50??

Listen to the episode then let us know what you think!

Theme music

The music I use is the last movement of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. This has been used as introduction music at many Yes concerts. My theme music is not take from a live concert – I put it together from the following two creative commons sources: thanvannispen and archive.org

I really enjoyed the interview
He is such a talented musician
I remember years ago he was doing a live podcast and was taking requests to play on piano . I requested Gates of Delerium sort of tongue in cheek but he proceeded to play it. Amazing

I am currently costing a trip from Toronto to Philly to see the 2 shows and the Fan convention as if I do it would leave Peter Banks as the only ever member of Yes that I did not see live with Yes

Hope to be able to make it

Hello,

Thanks for a great episode yet again !

You mentioned a certain Brian Nisson sharing a copy of the surround version of ‘Open your eyes’ album ? Where did this happen ?

I am actually looking to but this but cannot seem to find a distributor anywhere…

Thanks for shedding some light on this if you can !

Best Wishes,

JD

You may try ebay – there are a few there… but beware – this is not a dolby surround item. Please look at this quote from an ebay review

“Two Channel Disc!
This was 1997 and the word ‘surround’ was passed around way too easily. This is a two channel PCM CD that was made to work in tandem with the matrixed surround programs at that time, namely Dolby Pro-logic. Even then, the mix is extremely weak with no real separation. There is no Dolby or DTS encoded on this disc in ANY form and the unprocessed signal is 2 channel PCM. Do Not Purchase!”

Another excellent show …well done guys. I am very much looking forward to The Sea Within release. Just as a point of correction if you look carefully Steve actually can be seen twice on Billy’s latest Yes Facebook tour diary post and if you listen carefully you can hear him playing his Portuguese acoustic guitar…is that Nine Voices he is playing? Set list spoiler perhaps?!

Thanks Gary. I clearly wasn’t looking closely enough – or listening for that matter. So Steve was going for the Eddie Jobson Owner approach…

No problem Kevin,
Having listened again to the snippet of Steve playing the Portuguese acoustic it could be Part of Hour of Need not Nine Voices he is playing ……..of course most probably he was just warming up on the old Portuguese and it bears nothing on the upcoming set list for the US…..but Nine Voices or Hour ofNeed would be cool.

Oops I pressed the wrong button….I sent the last post. On a different…. the latest YesO setlist is way better than YfARW

Well, not to worry. As you can imagine, Mark and I will be discussing the set lists this week.

Not sure what Idid there…the Anonymous post were all from me….anyway I will be interested to hear you and Mark’sthoughts on the YesO and YesFARW set lists…….one band played tracks from 11 Yes albums , the other played pretty much the same setlist they have done for the last couple of years and sadly on the opening night appeared from what I can tell from a Youtube recording performed the worst version of And you and I …..I have ever heard.

Regards

Gary
