This week Mark and I discuss the latest special edition of Record Collector magazine which is dedicated to the world’s greatest progressive rock band. I was surprised and pleased to be asked to contribute some articles to the publication and the publisher came back and asked for more so I assume they liked what I had done. I ended up writing 4 pieces:
- An article on Close to the Edge
- A profile of Jon Davison
- A roundup of the most interesting extra tracks on remastered and expanded albums
- An overview of Yes members’ side projects
This is the first time I have been published in a nation/international periodical and I am delighted that the edition has turned out to be the best of this type of special I have seen.
YMP Patrons Dave Watkinson and Stephen Lambe also contributed major sections of the magazine so it’s wonderful that Record Collector have chosen to engage with real Yes fans. The other authors featured are clearly knowledgeable and experienced as well, for example Jerry Ewing, editor of Prog Magazine.

I’m eagerly awaiting on my copy to arrive here in Ohio from England. As for previous special editions, I can recommend the Record Collector presents King Crimson issue from 2024. I started buying RC issues when it started back in ’79, but only issues that interested me that I saw in bookstores.
I didn’t know this was out. I will have to pop into Chester town centre tomorrow and get it. I have numerous of these band themed booklets/magazines about Yes,The Beatles, Bob Dylan etc. Most just just consist of reprints of articles I already mostly have .
The Record Collector specials are way better full of new articles.This Yes one sounds great. The previous ones concerning King Crimson and Hawkwind are excellent too.
I forgot to say …great to see Kevin and David getting their due credit for being full on Yesfans.
By the way it was great to see David in London at the Beat show, sorry things went wrong for going to Pompeii, Ian, my partner and I had a great time, but missed you.

Good afternoon Mark and Kevin,
Charles Christopher here, long time listener, very occasional commenter…… I mostly just listen and read the comments. This time, I wanted to congratulate Kevin on being a contributor to this special issue! I’m not a regular reader of Record Collector, though I do have a few of their artist-focused special editions, and always look forward to getting ones on artists I love. I was planning to get this one even before I found out that you and several patrons here were contributors. Unfortunately, the local bookstore inconsistently gets the actual magazines, let alone the specials, so I’m going to have to order it.
I’m sure once I have a copy in my hands, I’ll make some comments about it. In the meantime, I hope Kevin is chuffed to be considered such a great, erudite Yes enthusiast that he’s sought out for his insight on something like this.
And of course, thank you for another great episode of the YMP.
