Theme music

The music I use is the last movement of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. This has been used as introduction music at many Yes concerts. My theme music is not take from a live concert – I put it together from the following two creative commons sources: thanvannispen and archive.org

After leaving my comment to Part 1 of this Podcast, I realized that I neglected to mention anything
about Oliver Wakeman, for whom this is his only official YES release…..which is just as well, I
suppose, because the Track which impresses me the most about Oliver is actually on this 2nd Disc.

As a classically-trained pianist, I have paid close attention to the Live renditions of “South
Side of the Sky” since it was first introduced to the Live show in 2002. Although I am a Huge
fan of everything the band did during the “Wakeman Reunion” period of 2002-04, I hate to say it
but Oliver is actually the only one who has gotten the middle piano section down note-perfect !
(Father Rick never quite got it right, by omitting a critically-important arpeggiated part of the solo).

This fact brings to mind Kevin’s comment about Oliver’s “genetic memory”….which, of course,
is an interesting comment, given that Oliver was born, more or less simultaneous with the “birth”
of FRAGILE (but, of course that’s a whole topic for another episode on the Metaphysics of
YES) !

Continuing my role as school pedant “which would mean 9 months after his father’s genetics had anything to do with it!” (Sorry, couldn’t resist 🙂 )

Thanks for the really interesting comment! It was really exciting to know that Oliver had listened to the episode! I was hugely impressed with his contribution to this live collection!

I’m back again. So after listening to this episode I realized that I really missed listening to this album. When it first came out I had it in my car for weeks. In response to the questions you left Kevin. .i think this album holds together very well. In fact i feel this is a very strong set list. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the new line up and the 3 albums idea, but the one thing I don’t like about it is that they seem to play the song (during the 3 albums tour) too much like the record. For example when they do “Yours is no Disgrace” the solo section is exactly the same length as on album. One of the strengths of Yes is their ability to improvise parts. Like that solo section. Overall I think I find this live album a little more enjoyable then the latest one. Oh and just to be consistent, I must leave a comment of possible surprise. After viewing live shows with Jon Davison and Benoit David I must say that while Jon is technically the better singer I feel Benoit is the better front man. Benoit seems more into it and is more talkative with the audience. Jon is like a programmed cyborg. I mean come on on the latest live Dvd all he says to the audience is “Steve is going to play Clap for you” Wow!! Great job Jon (Rolls eyes)
