Formed in 1968 by Jon Anderson and the late Chris Squire with guitarist Steve Howe joining in 1971 for ‘The Yes Album’, YES have been one of the most innovative, influential and best-loved bands in rock music history. Their 1970s albums ‘The Yes Album’, ‘Fragile’, ‘Close To The Edge’, ‘Tales From Topographic Oceans’, ‘Relayer’ and ‘Going For The One’ were ground-breaking in musical style and content.
With sales of over 50 million records, the Grammy-award winning YES were inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017.
YES released their 23rd studio album in 2023, ‘Mirror To The Sky’, produced by Steve Howe and the first to feature current drummer Jay Schellen. A new album is in the works with a proposed release in 2026.

True deep geeky stuff there. Quite amazing the differences to be had.
Best wishes Kevin.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your comment. Yes…i don’t think i scratched the surface with that album…and as far as the other albums…man there would be a lot to talk about.
Thanks again,
Mark Anthony K
I agree with Mark that the ’70 German pressing sounds the best. I’ve had 2 copies of that one since the 70s, with the alternate mixes. I also bought the Record Store Day version that replicated it.
Hi Doug,
Thank you for your comment.
Yeah German albums are usually a safe bet when looking for quality pressings. They can sometimes be a bit suspect in the low mid range…but overall they sound great. The Record Store Day pressing is very good and a good alternate to dropping a lot more for the original
Take care

Great episode Mark, thank you! Time and a Word is one of the few (pre-80s) Yes album I’ve yet to buy, so I really do appreciate the work you put into this one. I had been eyeing the 2018 US pressing this whole time, but I’m definitely going to be holding out for that German press instead.
I know this stuff is the nichest of the niche, but I love it! Hoping for more of these kinds of episodes
– Ronnie
PS, I’m not bummed about you skipping the Facebook group happenings – I already see it all when I check the site so don’t mind not hearing it back on the podcast.
Hi Ronnie,
Thank you so much for commenting. I’m very pleased that you enjoyed the episode. It did require quite a bit of research and listening (the various pressings) to prepare.
Yeah the 2018 US Records store day release is a good version of the record but if you have the patience and the extra dollars..the original 1970 German first pressing is the way to go.
I do hope to do a few more episodes like this…but focusing on different albums. And not back to back…this coming week will be a different topic.
Thanks again for your support. It’s very much appreciated.
