The YMP Time Machine – 736

Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Wayne Hall, Doug Curran and Jeffrey Crecelius

This week Mark and I embark on a little navel-gazing. It’s the first part of our celebrations of 15 years of the Yes Music Podcast and we look back to what YMP was up to and what Yes were doing 5, 10 and 15 years ago. We remind ourselves of several things we had forgotten, get trapped for a short time in a rabbit hole when I mention my new copy of Olias of Sunhillow and reminisce about how poor my presentation skills were when I started the podcast back in 2011.

It’s amazing that YMP still exists after all these years and it certainly wouldn’t without your support and dedication to the world’s greatest progressive rock band and the world’s longest-running Yes podcast.

Is Jon Anderson still a prog god?

When did Mark join the YMP team?

Does it seem like years since the episodes we mention?

Congratulations on the 15 years fellows. My how time flies when you’re having fun. Let’s hope both Yes and the YMP continue on for at least another decade and a half. Cheers.

Happy 736 or 745. Regardless of the total number, it’s very impressive for a music-related podcast! I’m happy to be along for the ride, as long as it & I continue to exist.

Best wishes, congratulations on keeping going, who would have thought you can talk Yes things this long.

I can’t even believe the age of my book, gosh it goes quickly!

As for the new Olias!!! I think it is a real eye opener, I know this record so well that I was shocked to hear new things, moments, sounds, and for the most part it enhances this classic album. Some tiny bits in the mix are maybe questionably chosen to my ears, but I am quite stunned it brings fresh instruments out that have been hidden for ever.

I think the Jon in a garage making this music in a basic way comes out even more with this mix, separation, volume, and its odd. Odd because my brain says this is the the Olias you have heard for 50 years, yet it is now different.

A muddy 70s cheap system makes it all so much more of a sound mush, a good one obviously, but cleaned, brightened, dug out from the depths and brought forward a keyboard or a bell sound, I am enlightened and confused at the same time.

Maybe chat some more about it when you have listened to it.

Congratulations on 15 years of this wonderful podcast. As I always like to say I have been listening since episode one. I accept Mark’s apology regarding his vocal pitch change, in fact it always used to make me smile.

Another great show – I think I heard all of them as they came out!
I saw Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks in Portsmouth on Tuesday night… they are excellent!! Jon’s voice is incredible even if he occasionally forgets words and comes in at the wrong time ( as on You and I!) the guitarist Angus Clark is amazing, Chris Clark is note perfect and Richie Castellano gives fabulous performance on bass
All very uptempo and note perfect
You will enjoy it!!
