Everyone in Yes is a newcomer! 270

Citizen by Billy Sherwood
Citizen by Billy Sherwood

Produced by Preston Frazier, David Gordon, Bill Govier, Wayne Hall and Michel Arsenault.

It’s half term holiday for me this week so the episode is slightly shorter than normal. However, Mark and I manage to think about the idea that everyone in Yes currently is a ‘newcomer’ if you stretch that concept as far as possible. Also, Mark reviews Citizen by Billy Sherwood and there’s plenty of news.

  • What was the first studio-recorded moment of each of the current members of the band?
  • Was each recorded debut as successful as the rest?
  • Does it make a difference how much live playing goes on before a new member contributes to a studio album?

Lee Pomeroy
Lee Pomeroy

Produced by Preston Frazier, David Gordon, Bill Govier, Wayne Hall and Michel Arsenault.

What a treat it was to welcome Lee Pomeroy, bassist with ARW amongst many other bands and projects, onto the show. We had a brilliant time talking to him and we hope you also enjoy listening to it. Mark reviews Time And A Word as well as taking the plunge with a new segment all about his passion for things technical in recorded Yes music. Enjoy!

  • What’s it like playing with Rick Wakeman?
  • How important is it to honour Chris Squire’s bass lines?
  • Why do you play your bass upside down?

Yes' home on the web - YesWorld.com
Yes’ home on the web – YesWorld.com

We are trying out a new format on the podcast beginning this week. There’s the usual news and an album review from Mark (Keys to Ascension II) but then I take part in a discussion of Mark’s 2 Pence which is about how the Internet has changed how we find out about our favourite band and we also have a chance to discuss an email from Joseph Cottrell about the authenticity of the current touring Yes band compared with Anderson Rabin Wakeman – ARW.

  • What’s KTAII like?
  • What have you discovered which amazed you about Yes from the web?
  • Are ARW more Yes than Yes?

I have finally managed to finish off the DVD this week – and it’s been very enjoyable. Mark investigates Conspiracy and we both mention the first anniversary of Chris Squire’s passing.

  • How does the story on the DVD finish?
  • What is Conspiracy like?
  • Are we still thinking about Chris Squire? Of course we are, one year on.

In a week of amazing contrasts, I return to continue my look at the Total Rock Review DVD and Mark revistis the ABWH album as well as bringing us his two pence on the future of progressive rock. I also have my say on the current ARW ticket pricing issues.

  • What more is there to learn about the early days of the band fromt he DVD?
  • Who will carry the prog torch?
  • Will Yes fans be priced out of seeing ARW?

  • What is Progeny actually like?
  • What clips do I come up with?
  • What is Mark’s two pence this week?
