Review of 2019 – 413

Happy New Year image

Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier

I’d like to dedicate this episode of the Yes Music Podcast to the memory of BRIAN HARTLEY. You won’t have known him in person but you certainly know his work. Brian was a school friend of mine and was a brilliant cartoonist and illustrator even then. He went on to design graphics for video games but for us, he will always be best known for creating the new YMP logo and associated artwork. He died shortly before Christmas at the age of 49 and all will miss him terribly. Rest In Peace, Brian.

This week, Mark and I take a look back at our favourite episodes from the past year and look forward to 2020.

Theme music

The music I use is the last movement of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. This has been used as introduction music at many Yes concerts. My theme music is not take from a live concert – I put it together from the following two creative commons sources: thanvannispen and archive.org

Well, my top 4 would be (in order of broadcast) –
– 397 – Four Seasons – similar to 301, best /worst albums – this took a left turn at why you are a fan of the show/band being how the music tied in with the four seasons of the year (and I had to look up Mark’s usage of “Fall” etc… as they don’t call those season like that here down under) – using my image part of my brain…speaking of which…
– 400 – the quiz was great, although I was a late starter to enter as some of those questions were really hard, but again, using my brain again, some guesses and some research made it fun (also to hear my awful voice on a show was sort of a treat) – PS I still haven’t received anything in the mail by way of a silver prize – have they gone out yet?
– 404 – Oliver interview – was really insightful, honest, interesting and empathetic to what could have been (now that I have heard the wonderful music) – I hope he does come down to Aussie like his Dad has many times…
– 411 – OK, I’ve said it before, I am also a Zep Head, and hearing your thoughts, while different to mine ref Jimmy/Alan and Chris was a fun treat and I did talk back at the podcast a few times, though you couldn’t hear me, it was a fun review none the less…
I’m sure 2020 will keep up the great work they and you do…. 🙂
