The one hundred and twenty fifth episode of the Yes Music Podcast, featuring part 1 my plans for how to listen to the Yes concert I am attending in May 2014.
- What should I be looking out for when I go to see Yes live?
- Should I try and listen critically to every track?
- Should I just enjoy the experience and not worry?
Listen and see if you agree with me, then let me know via any of the methods below.

The music I use is the last movement of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. This has been used as introduction music at many Yes concerts. My theme music is not take from a live concert – I put it together from the following two creative commons sources: thanvannispen and archive.org

Kevin, having been lucky enough to experience it twice I can tell you that should just relax, listen and enjoy it! 🙂
BTW don’t assume that YIND will open the concert – neither of the gigs I attended were played in chronological order. (Which also meant that Awaken didn’t end either gig which was just plain wrong in my opinion.)
Great point, Ken – fascinated see what they do. In a recent Alan White interview he definitely said it would be Close to the Edge, Going for the One then finishing with The Yes Album.
Starship Trooper is perhaps my favorite Yes song and I was glad to see that you choose it as one of the songs to take note of when you see Yes in May. I have a number of Yes live recordings and have always enjoyed how from tour to tour the members of the band have altered their solos at the end of the song. I found it interesting when I saw the band this past summer that only Squire and Howe performed their solos(on Starship Trooper) and that Downes remained silent.
Thanks Chris. I await that section of Starship Trooper with much interest! Great to know you are listening.
Steven Wilson has remixed The Yes Album and it is being released on 12th April – the CD version is a fairly reasonable £12 and the Blueray is £15 – includes Sid Smith words as well . Kevin any chance of getting Sid on YMP again to talk TYA ? http://stevenwilsonhq.com/sw/headphonedust/yes-the-yes-album-cddvda/
Thanks for spotting that, Paul!!
