My 90125 and 9012Live collection

Produced by Preston Frazier, David Gordon, Bill Govier, Wayne Hall and Michel Arsenault.

We were delighted to welcome Joost Maglev onto the show this week to discuss 9012Live from 1985. We all really enjoyed this fantastic live concert film and the 80s fashions it contains! Mark also reviews the Patrick Moraz album ‘Syrinx – Coexistence’.

  • How does the band look and sound on this film?
  • Is ARW the same as Yes in the Rabin era?
  • How did selling millions of records affect the live show?

If it was up to us, here are some songs we would like Yes and ARW to play in their Summer tours, 2017. There’s also a two pence about what live albums we would like to see next and Mark reviews the Bill Bruford album – Earthworks.

  • Could there be a Yestival II featuring albums beyond Drama?
  • What could ARW add to their setlist?
  • Could the current Yes line up cope with really old songs?

More on Yes keyboard players – 278

Yes logo by Roger Dean – of course!

Produced by Preston Frazier, David Gordon, Bill Govier, Wayne Hall and Michel Arsenault.

After a suggestion by Jeremy North, we look at live performances by Yes keyboard players including Kaye playing Wakeman and Wakeman playing Kaye. There’s a great video doing the rounds of four Yes keyboard players playing the same Close to the Edge solo and it was a lot of fun to look at that carefully. Mark also reviews the debut Flash record which features Tony Kaye soon after he left Yes for the first time and we enter the dangerous waters of what Yes and ARW need to do (if anything) to legitimise their claim to the name of ‘Yes’.

  • Who plays the best Close to the Edge solo?
  • How do Rick Wakeman and Tony Kaye approach each other’s parts?
  • Which approaches work best?

Two wonderful albums!
Two wonderful albums!

Produced by Preston Frazier, David Gordon, Bill Govier, Wayne Hall and Michel Arsenault.

We look at the first two Yes keyboard players in a week when they are both to be inducted into the Rock adn Roll Hall of Fame. We also talk about all the political insanity of this week as well as the brilliant highlights in the world of Yes!

  • Did Tony Kaye go as far as he could with the band?
  • What did Rick Wakeman bring?
  • Could Fragile or Close to the Edge been made with Tony Kaye?

It’s getting close to Christmas so this week Mark reviews Chris Squire’s Swiss Choir and we compare notes on what Yes items we would like to receive in our Christmas stockings this year. We also spend some time with the Yes BBC Sessions from 1969 which was fascinating and there’s a clip which was sent in by Jeremy North – Tales reference on TalkSport UK radio!

  • How did the band sound in 1969?
  • Do the recordings capture the vitality of the music?
  • What do you think of Chris Squire’s Christmas album?

Big Generator
Big Generator vinyl purchased 2015

It’s back to look at Big Generator in a mini-series this week. Firstly, I consider some of the things the musicians said about the album afterwards.

  • Was this an easy album to make?
  • Was the band overflowing with material?
  • Was it a harmonious, easy process?

Listen to the episode and then let me know what you think!
