The one hundred and tenth episode of the Yes Music Podcast, featuring an audio unboxing of the new Steven Wilson version of Close to the Edge. I am on leave this week so this is a short episode.

  • What is the quality of the packaging like?
  • Are there any interesting additions to the sleeve notes?
  • How can you tell what’s on the discs?

Theme music

The music I use is the last movement of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. This has been used as introduction music at many Yes concerts. My theme music is not take from a live concert – I put it together from the following two creative commons sources: thanvannispen and archive.org

My blu-ray version arrived today. The packaging sounds identical to your description. Like you Kevin, I now need to find the time to sit down quietly and listen to it in all its surround sound glory!

Well, we must find time! I really don’t understand all the different formats – even on the discs I have! I wonder if I’ll be able to tell the difference…

I received mine a couple of days ago. I’ve not yet listened to your podcast episode, so more feedback to come.

I listened to the CD and am impressed with the sound quality. There seems to be a lot more ‘air’ in the mix. I’ll need to compare it to the original to pass judgement, as to whether or not it is better.
The sleeve notes are very interesting, but the print quality is not of the best. It made me yearn for the LP format, art work etc suffers when this small.

Thanks Jeremy. Yes, if only the 12inch format was still with us! It would indeed be wonderful to see those Roger Dean paintings in a sensible size. Can’t wait to listen now – sadly life tends to get in the way of the serious stuff! 😉

Hi there,
Is this cd/dvd package also coming with a green beautiful promo sticker? I saw this on a picture of the cd/bd package…
A promo sticker is such a nice item for collectors…
Thanks in advance, kind regards, John.
